National Landcare Community Group Award 2018
The Tarrangower Cactus Control Group was awarded the Victorian Fairfax Media Landcare Community Group Award in 2017 and so automatically became the Victorian State representative in the National award this year. Four members of the group (Lee, Ian, Tony and Jan, all long term committed ‘cactus warrior’ volunteers) travelled to Brisbane this week to attend the National Landcare Conference and award ceremony.
There are many hundreds of amazingly passionate and extraordinary Landcare groups and projects all around Australia. The competition for the award was of course outstanding and extremely stiff and, alas, our local cactus warriors did not win the national prize.
However this in no way diminishes the value, commitment and importance of the work that these volunteers do. Congratulations to all cactus warriors for your nomination in this award and thankyou for all of your passion, tenacity and very hard work. The war on wheel cactus continues!
