Members of the Monash Uni Biological Society will be visiting and assisting the Cactus Warriors at next Sunday’s (26th June) field day. And we’ll all be helping Parks Victoria with the battle against Wheel Cactus in our beautiful Maldon Historic Reserve.
There’s lots of new Wheel Cactus plants on the western side of Mt. Tarrangower, as above, which need injecting because they’ll be fruiting come Spring time. But of course, most are growing in the difficult rocky terrain on the side of the mountain where they so love to grow. We plan to work in pairs with an experienced Cactus Warrior acting as buddy to each of the students. The Monash students’ visit is supported by funding from Mt. Alexander Shire Council.
The location is off Mt. Back Rd., via Waterson’s Rd. Maldon, check map of location and directions here. The action will start at 10:30am, after some instructions and buddying with the students. Please wear sturdy boots for climbing around the rocks. As Tarrangower Cactus Control Group is part of Landcare Victoria, we will be following Covid-Safe and Child Protection guidelines, and all children must be accompanied by a parent at all times.
