Did you know that the Mount Alexander Shire Council offers subsidized rates to landholders who have undertaken environmental protection works on their property? Property owners can earn a yearly rate reduction if they can demonstrate that they’ve completed eligible activities, such as killing weeds. For further information, contact the Healthy Environment Team on 5471 1700.
Our local Council has also recently introduced a rate rebate for landholders who have a conservation covenant on their land under either Trust for Nature or Section 69 Conservation Forests and Land Act 1987. You can help to permanently protect our native flora and fauna by destroying the weeds and pests on your property. Contact Trust for Nature for more information.
Tarrangower Cactus Control Group is here to help you destroy your weeds. We can show you how to most effectively kill the Wheel Cactus plants on your land, and have equipment you can borrow. We particularly welcome new property owners or those who have just moved to our special, beautiful part of the country!
Our next Wheel Cactus Field Day will be on Sunday 28th September at a property next to Cairn Curran Reservoir, about 10km from Maldon. To get there, drive to Cairn Curran and turn left along the road towards the boat ramp, around the eastern side of the reservoir. The route will be well signposted around Cairn Curran Reservoir. The morning’s activities will begin at 10:30 am and end at 12:30 pm with an enjoyable BBQ and friendly chat. If you have any queries please contact Ian on 0412 015 807.
