Cactus warriors talk cactus at the show.

By October 18, 2015June 22nd, 2018Agricultural Show, Volunteers

A small army of warriors held a stall at the annual show, sharing wise tips about how best to kill wheel cactus plants; such as how easy it is to destroy them while they’re still small because they have very shallow roots and are easy to dig up. But also, please don’t leave them lying on the ground as the plant will re-root from any pore and continue to grow. The small plants need to be buried or burned, and can be disposed of at the Maldon Tip for free.

The Tarrangower Cactus Control Group will hold their next Community Field Day on Sunday 25th October so please join us if you’re a landholder and need to learn how to destroy this weed. The location is on the corner of Goughs Range and Tarrangower School Roads, just a few kms southwest of Maldon. To get there go down Newstead Road and turn right at Goughs Range Road. The morning’s activities will begin at 10:30 am followed by a BBQ and friendly chat. If you have any queries please contact Ian on 0412 015 807.
